Week 5

This week in lab, we finished up the physics portion of the course. We looked at pendulum simulations online and worked in our groups. We investigated the question why does a swing slow down or stop? We then did a design challenge modeling a child's fall. We revised our work using the SCAMPER framework, re-designed, and re-tested. We used eggs to investigate force. Newton's third law was introduced: objects exert forces on each other that are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. Lastly we looked at energy lens and why a ball doesn't bounce in an example. We looked at NGSS examples to see how students should use force ideas.

Thursday's lecture was a snow day.

There was no reading this week.

A comment that I would have loved to investigate swings on the playground in my elementary science classrooms.
